Our Way Cafe to become Vietnamese Pho Restaurant in Avondale Estates/Decatur

What Now Atlanta Reports “The recently-shuttered Our Way Cafe in Avondale Estates won’t sit dark long.
Khanh Vietnamese Kitchen, a sister concept to Duluth’s Khanh Vietnamese Pho and Sandwich, later this year will open in the restaurant’s place.
“I think the Atlanta area has some of the best Vietnamese food in the United States if not the world,” Dinh Tran, Khanh Vietnamese Kitchen’s co-owner in a telephone interview told What Now Atlanta Friday.
“Our family wants to focus on truly authentic Vietnamese Pho.”
Slated to open July 1, at 2831 E College Ave., Khanh Vietnamese Kitchen will make its noodles and broth fresh daily.
“For me, I like to cook everything fresh the same day that it’s served,” Tran said.
“Our preparation will be similar to how its done in Vietnam where chefs start cooking at 3 a.m. until lunch service.”
The restaurant will also look and feel like it’s straight out of Vietnam, according to Tran.
Its kitchen will be “pulled all the way to the front door” and the dining area will adorn “the colors of Vietnam.”
Tran and his team executed the lease in January.
Plans call for two new locations every year for the next five years with the Avondale Estates outpost being the prototype for future stores.
Midtown or Buckhead will most likely become home to the second Khanh Vietnamese Kitchen which could open as early as winter 2019.
“I’m very proud of our food,” Tran said.
“It’s very fresh, healthy, and flavorful.”

New Decatur market and deli opens across from Kimball House

Sean Crotty and Tauna Jecmen opened neighborhood market and deli Kelly’s Market on East Howard Avenue in Decatur, across from Kimball House, last week. Kelly’s takes over the space once occupied by the short-lived Decatur Market. Crotty tells Eater Atlanta they’ve retained a few members of staff from the previous market. Along with the usual grocery items such as produce, milk, meat, and bread, Kelly’s offers made-to-order sandwiches as well as take-home meals in its deli. The market also has a large selection of beer and wine. On-premise consumption of beer and wine is planned once the market settles into a rhythm. In addition to Kimball House, neighbors include Doggy Dogg hot dog shack next door and the newly-opened Ammazza pizzeria. [EATL]

Three Taverns Brewery launches in Decatur, Georgia

Three-Taverns-Brewery-logo

(Decatur, GA) – Savannah Distributing announced some news regarding a new brand in Sunday night’s email newsletter. More below…

Three Taverns Craft Brewery kicked off its brands Friday night in its hometown of Decatur. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re happy to welcome this homegrown brewery and its Belgian-style beers to the Savannah Distributing family.

Initial distribution of kegs only will be in the Atlanta area. Currently, Three Taverns offers:

3 Taverns Single Intent

Single Intent pays tribute to Belgium’s Trappist breweries, which make a lighter-bodied blonde ale that’s set apart for the monks’ personal consumption and not sold – hence the term Patersbier, meaning “father’s beer.” With a spicy, herbal aroma from French Strisselspalt hops, this crisp and complex ale is too good to keep cloistered.

ABV: 5% | Bitterness: 35 IBUs

3 Taverns Night in Brussels

A Night in Brussels is a Belgian-style American IPA with malts from Belgium, a blend of American hops, pure cane sugar in the best Southern tradition, and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. A pleasing marriage of old- and new-world beer cultures, this unique ale is best understood as an American IPA on a Belgian road trip.

ABV: 7.5% | Bitterness: 69 IBU
